Why choose The University of Law?

We are respected as specialists

With over 100 years’ experience, we are the only UK university to specialise in law. We have trained more lawyers in English law than any other law school and have an established reputation in producing high-calibre and sought-after law graduates that top law firms want to employ.

We will connect you to a global legal career

In an increasingly globalised legal world, English law is the first choice for international businesses and is used to govern many international commercial arrangements. A degree in English law from The University of Law is your passport to a global career, whether you want to join one of the major international law firms in the UK, in your own jurisdiction, or anywhere in the world. Indeed, students from The University of Law have used their qualifications to further their careers in jurisdictions such as Canada, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Nigeria and Singapore.

We value practical experience

Participating in our pioneering and award-winning pro bono programme is a great opportunity for you to gain valuable work experience by helping real clients from the local community. We also offer external work placements and mentoring schemes.

We have expert tutors with real-world knowledge

All of our tutors are qualified solicitors, barristers or judges with extensive practical experience. They bring their real-world experience into the classroom, bringing academic subjects alive and deepening students’ knowledge of the law. We keep our class sizes small so that every student receives personal attention and high levels of contact time with their tutor.

We are successful: 97% employment record

Our graduates enjoy an outstanding record of employment success. In 2013, 97% of our full-time students who graduated secured employment within nine months of graduation*.

We provide innovative teaching to help you think like a lawyer

We are an established law university but we have a very modern approach. Unlike other universities which focus solely on academic learning and analysis, our courses really bring the law to life. We’ll put you into typical and real-life scenarios that a young lawyer might face so that you really start to think like a lawyer. You’ll work on real-world case studies, participate in small group workshops and role plays, and work with real documents. This will help you understand how the law works in reality, both as a lawyer or generally in business.

English law is trusted around the world

English law is increasingly chosen to govern many international commercial arrangements due to a number of factors:

  • English law is seen as predictable and transparent
  • The English court system is respected throughout the world
  • London is seen as the preferred seat for arbitration.

As a system that offers world-class legal advice along with the flexibility required for commerce, English law is often the first choice for international business around the world.

*Based on known destinations, 98% of our full-time LPC students who graduated in summer 2013 had secured employment within nine months.
